The eggs have hatched!
Our broody hen (who has been broody for the last 5 weeks) finally has chicks to look after! Five of the eight eggs hatched, giving us two Rhode Island Red chicks and three Australorps.
Gorgeous and undeniably adorable!
We bought the fertilized eggs from Barter And Sons, located in Luddenham, which is just west of Badgery’s Creek and about 30 minutes west of Cabramatta. They specialise in pure breed Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorn and cross bred chickens. Very helpful friendly family business with reasonable prices.
The “mother” hen is a bantam of some sort, I’m not sure what she is exactly though I suspect Brahma since mum said they used to have them in Vietnam.
I hope the chicks have mostly hens… or I’ll have to advertise to sell the roosters =(
